There is an interesting crispness to your photo that is intriguing. The small splash of color from the ceiling lamp excites the earth tones of the surrounding wood tone. I prefer this shot to your black and white version. I am a huge fan of lines and intersection, and while there is an angular feel to the photo (mostly 90 degree angles), there is an occasional curve or alternate angle to keep things interesting.

I would also add that it's a wise choice to offset the lamp, rather than making it the central focus. Outside of a minor barrel distortion (very minor), this is delightful!
